to cherish and respect their own dignity and to build on their own strengths
which enables them to provide independently for themselves and their children.”
Birthday Party Kicks Off 25th anniversary
They arrived with a four-car motorcycle police escort led by the Police
Chief of Anthony, New Mexico. What a way to kick off the 25th
anniversary birthday party for Reynolds Home kids on March 28th.
Forty members of the outreach ministry of the Faith Riders and Life
groups at Cielo Vista Church were greeted by about the same number of children
and moms as the motorcycle cavalcade gunned their motors heading up the long
winding driveway at Reynolds Home.
Leader and founder of the group Robert Parker, and Event Organizers of
the Outreach Ministry of Life Groups, Virginia and David Lawyer, rolled out a
birthday party with all the traditional trimmings: hamburgers and hot dogs,
Birthday Cake and candy, and even Easter Baskets! Mr. Parker is insistent as he explains that
the group is not your ordinary motorcycle club, but a ministry, whose goal is “to serve our community, to reach out and help children who maybe are
not getting everything they need from the community.”
“Finding Reynolds Home is an
answer to prayer as we searched ways to do something as families. It exactly
fits our motto: Care, Share, Give,” explained Virginia and David. Virginia saw
Reynolds Home on Facebook and chose the Reynolds Home family as the first
outreach effort for the new group.
As it happened, lots of first anniversaries coincided with Reynolds
Home’s 25th anniversary.
Faith Riders is celebrating their foundation 1 year ago with 5 members;
one year later there are 49 members. One
year ago, Mr. Parker left 20 acres of farmland and a 2-acre fishpond in Georgia
to return to El Paso and started the group. The Birthday Party was the group’s
first outreach event.
Spiritual Guide and Adviser Tom Newport, Elder of the
Congregation at Cielo Vista, said he was honored to be a part of the
celebration. The group also contributed
more than $300 to the first official anniversary fundraiser.
